Natural Remedies I use to Keep my Kid Flu Free & Why it Works

Relaxing bath scene featuring candles, rose petals, and essential oils for a tranquil spa experience.

Let me start by saying: I’m not a doctor, and I’m not here to shame medicine.

But I am a mama who has walked the path of worrying about sick babies, sleepless nights, and wondering if there was a gentler way.

And I found one.

Here’s how it happened..

When I was pregnant during the peak of COVID, I remember being terrified — not of the virus itself, but of what I might be forced into: isolation, overmedication, panic.

So I turned inward. I turned to food, nature, and instinct. I started researching natural remedies. And I haven’t looked back.

My son is now four years old, and we’ve made it through without the need for doctors visits. No cough syrups, no antibiotics — just good old-fashioned earth medicine and consistent, simple care that actually worked for thousands and thousands of years.

Lately, I’ve seen so many moms saying:

“This flu just won’t go away.”

“We’ve been coughing for weeks.”

“It just keeps coming back.”

So I’m going to share what’s worked for us — not because I think I know everything, but because I wish I had known this sooner in my life, thankfully motherhood made me go on a teuth mission. So here it is:

Detox Bath for the Whole Family

Why it works:

Helps flush out toxins, reduce body aches, and calm inflammation.

ACV rebalances skin pH

Bentonite clay draws out toxins

Epsom salts replenish magnesium for muscle support

How to make it:

1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar

1/4 cup Bentonite Clay

1/2 cup Epsom salts

Soak 20–30 min. Rinse well and hydrate.

🍋 Lemon & Honey Drink

Why it works:

Honey for its antiviral, antibacterial and theoat soothing superpowers.

Lemon for its high Vit C content and immune-boosting properties

Drink it warm for a soothing effect or add a dash of celtic salt and turn it into a natural cold lemon hydrating powerade.

🧅 Onion Trick (Ancient & Effective)

Slice raw onion under feet with socks on = helps draw out heat and mucus

Place half an onion in the room = natural air purifier + decongestant

Why it works:

Sulfur compounds. They pull. They cleanse. And helpnfight infection.

And while I don’t fully understand the science, I can tell you this: every time I forget to do it, I regret it.

Elderberry Syrup + Bonus Vitamins

II started making my own elderberry syrup when store-bought ones felt too sugary, overpriced and had way too many side effects listed on the back.

My mix includes:

1/2 cup dried Elderberries (immune-boosting flavonoids)

2 cups water

1 Tbsp Ginger (natural anti-inflammatory)

1/2 tsp Turmeric (supports healing)

1 tsp Moringa (my miracle green — seriously, I used it to help save animals during rehab days!)

Simmer 30 mins, strain

Cool + mix with 1/2 cup raw honey

👉 1 tsp daily for prevention or 3x daily if flu hits hard.

It’s potent, safe, and has honestly become a superhero in our home.

🧄Garlic + Ginger in Honey (Nature’s Antibiotic)

This combo is what I call nature’s antibiotic. Because it quite literally is!

Slice fresh ginger, peeled garlic cloves, and cover it in raw honey. After 3-5 days on the counter, it’s ready — and tastes better than it sounds. Move to the fridge and take a spoonful a day when symptoms start.

Three spoons when someone’s really down. Works every time.

PS: do not give honey to children under the age of one year.

Hand-Cup Back Taps

When my son was born, he had a bit of a chest — not serious enough for panic, but enough to keep me up at night, listening to every breath.

I wasn’t comfortable jumping straight to medication, so I tried something a friend had once shown me.

I cupped my hand and gently tapped his back — soft, rhythmic, hollow taps across his upper back and ribs, every couple of hours. Just enough to sound like a soft drumbeat.

That’s all I did.

No syrups. No meds.

And within 2 days… it cleared.

Whatever was sitting on his chest, loosened and lifted. To this day, it’s one of those remedies I can’t fully explain — but it works like magic.

We were made to believe we’re helpless without the pharmacy.

But I believe we were made to be healers — to know our children, to support their bodies, not just silence symptoms.

Nature gave us so much — we just need to remember how to use it.

You can feel confident in natural remedies.

You can build your own home apothecary.

And if you’re ready to try — just start with one. Maybe it’s garlic honey. Maybe it’s an onion under the bed. Maybe it’s a little trust in yourself.

You’ve got this. Now go heal yourself!

Till next time

Much love 💛
