These are homemade, crispy, golden-brown perfection, made with the goodness of sourdough and a few pantry staples. The best part? No bubbly starter, no waiting, and no stress.

We all love a good corndog, but have you ever stopped to think about what’s actually in those frozen ones? Let’s just say… yikes. Making them at home means real ingredients, zero preservatives, and a little gut-friendly goodness thanks to sourdough.Even without a long fermentation, sourdough flour is:

Quick & Crispy Sourdough Corndogs Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup sourdough discard (or active starter—either works!)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 tbsp honey (or sugar)

1 egg

¾ cup milk (or buttermilk for extra flavor)

6 hot dogs (use organic, nitrate-free if possible!)6 wooden skewers

Neutral oil for frying

Instructions:

1️⃣ Heat the Oil – In a deep pan, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).

2️⃣ Prep the Hot Dogs – Pat them dry with a paper towel and insert skewers.

3️⃣ Make the Batter – In a bowl, whisk together sourdough discard, flour, baking powder, salt, honey, egg, and milk until smooth.

4️⃣ Dip & Coat – Pour batter into a tall mason jar or measuring jug (this makes dipping easier!). Dip each hot dog, rotating to coat evenly.

5️⃣ Fry to Golden Perfection – Carefully place in hot oil, frying 2-3 minutes per side until deep golden brown.

6️⃣ Drain & Serve – Remove and drain on a paper towel. Serve with mustard, ketchup, or homemade ranch!
